The site is located on what was once the grounds of the Confederate Home of Missouri, which housed dependent Civil War veterans and their families. The last veteran of the war died there in 1950 at the age of 107. Today, the site is a memorial to the 40,000 Missourians who fought under the Flag of the Confederancy. The 192-acre site includes a historic chapel and cemetery, several small lakes for fishing, and picnic sites.
