After the defeat on Missionary Ridge and Lookout Mountain, Braxton Bragg's army retreated south through Ringold Gap. Left as the rearmost guard was A brigade of Kentucky Cavalry including the 9th and 1st Regiments.Deployed forward of Patrick Cleburnes troops they meet Shermans hordes in a mounted skirmish lines.Several of them are buried in a mass grave in a small cemetary directly behind the the Holiday Inn Express at the Ringold exit off I75

This is the train terminal at Ringold Gap. The lighter color stones are repairs from the battle. The 9th Kentucky was drawn up in a line about 300 yards in front of this building.
